Classes at Sugarfoot Yarns
Our current class offerings:
< p>New for Summer 2010: classes on YOUR schedule. We are offering all one-session classes, with the exception of the "Toddler Sock" two-session class offered once in June and once in July. You can mix and match your classes to fit your interests, skills and schedule. Each class is $20 per session.
Our classes fall into four broad categories:
BEGINNER classes: These classes teach the "basic four," the cast-on, bind-off, knit stitch and purl stitch. If you need a knitting refresher, you may only need one session. For someone who is new to knitting, plan on three to four sessions. They are schedule each week at a variety of times!
IMPORTANT! All of our other classes assume that you understand these four skills.
TECHNIQUE classes: These classes teach one more advanced skill. There is no project, per se, but we will show you plenty of examples of where the skills are used. Technique classes include short rows, entrelac, Fair-Isle, reading patterns and charts, and much more...
"START A..." Classes: These classes are more project oriented. We know that the beginning is often the most difficult part of a project. These classes will help you get cast on, read through the pattern and anticipate the bumpy parts. This summer we are starting top-down sweaters, hats, scarves, blankets... These classes will require a little advance homework so we can cover all the required material.
KNITTING CLINIC: Everything else. Are you stuck? Need to understand how to put your sweater together? Want to work on YOUR project? These are the sessions for you! Choose when you want to come--this class is offered at least once a week. We may increase this if there is interest.
Class Policies:
We have a maximum of six students for most classes. If a class has less than three students we may cancel it. We will notify you and refund your class fee if that happens approximately 48 hours prior to the class time.
Please register for a class at least 48 hours in advance. You must pay the class fee to be considered registered for the class. Class fees become non-refundable 48 hours prior to class.
We plan all class dates and times prior to the class' beginning. Please plan accordingly. Make-up classes are not offered without prior arrangement and are solely at the teacher's discretion.
For project classes, please use materials in the class purchased at Sugarfoot Yarns. We offer a 10% discount on materials purchased for the class, as well as a 10% discount for materials purchased on the day of the class (for your next project!).
If a class is a technique or "stash-buster" class, feel free to use yarn you have on hand. The 10% discount applies, though, regardless of the type of class you're attending.
Registered class members only at the table during classes, please. Plan to arrange for child care prior to the class...our shop is small and not very interesting for non-knitters!
Please, beverages ONLY at the class table.
Should a class be cancelled, we will refund your fees and you may return your materials with the exception of WOUND yarn. We cannot return wound yarn. For this reason we recommend winding only one ball, if necessary, prior to the first class. We can wind the remainder for you during class time.
Other shop events:
Thursday evenings: 6 or so til 8ish. "Purl Jam" open stitch. Share your project, enjoy new friends and relax for an hour or more as we sit and stitch in the shop.
